I have reason to believe Robert Jordan has based the look of Verin's notebook off of our Voynich Manuscript. This is why:

The Path of Daggers
Prologue: Deceptive Appearances
Page 19, paperback

"Thank you, Wise One," Verin said meekly, tucking the book back safely behind her belt. She even added another curtsy for good measure, just as deep as the first. "I have the habit of noting down what I see." One day she would have to write out the cipher she used in her notebooks - a lifetime's worth of them filled cupboards and chests in her rooms above the White Tower library - one day, but she hoped not soon."

This is from Wikipedia concerning the Voynich Manuscript,

I find that it's a very clever reference, if it is one, and would like to know more about Verin's notebook and her other works in the White Tower.

Learn more about Verin's notebook? I want to learn more about her! Man, she annoys me in a way that just... argh... she's so bloody mysterious! I can't think of what she's up to!

From what I understand Jordan had made all sorts of references to things in his books. Take Artur Hawking and Tom Merrilin. Doesn't that sound oddly similar to Arthur and Merlin?

He's put vague bits and pieces of all sorts of things in his books. It's just a matter of figuring it all out...>.>
