Background:[/i] Dal was born to a merchant's family in Andor. He grew up having almost anything he wanted. When he turned 23 his parents gave him the family medalian. The medalian was a solid peice of goldish metal and had an electric blue gem set within the center. Both the metal and the gem didn't look right. The metal was too shiney to be gold and the gem was harder than a diamond and an unnatural color, but he didn't care. But with his new medailian his parents gave him some news that he didn't like. He was to be married to a daughter of another merchant family. Dal didn't want to get married let alone get married to the other family's daughter. So in the middle of the night on the day before his wedding, he packed up and headed out of Andor as fast as his horse could take him until he ran it dead. Dal took any way he could to get away, even if it was walking on foot. After two months of traveling Dal came to Arad Domon where he got a job as a merchant's guard.
The merchant Dal worked for turned out to be a woman. Dal had never met a woman merchant before let alone one that was said to be the best merchant in all of Arad Domon. Dal spent 4 years with this merchant and become one of the best merchant guards on her team. The fellow guards had taught him to use the sword and spear better than he had learned from a paid tutor back in Andor. Soon he could outbest everyone else on the team in practice. But on Dal's 27th name day a curse fell upon him. He learned that he could channel saidin. Dal quickly packed again and took a sword and spear with him and fled in the night away from his employer and fellow guardsmen.
Again Dal ran away as fast a possible. He ran horses dead as fast he could buy them and never stopped. But while Dal was traveling he would practice seizing the Source and channeling small amounts for practice. Dal caught on quickly on forming the Emptyness (Void) and on how to channel. Dal had figured out how to do many things while fumbling with different weaves before he reached a small village in Amadicia.
There he witnessed a recruiting party from men in black coats shouting that they wanted people to serve the Dragon Reborn at the Black Tower. Every man went to be tested in the villiage and those who could channel were put in a wagon and shipped away. But the men who couldn't channel were offered to join the army they were building. Most denied their offer and went back to what they were doing before, but the ones that did accept were put in another wagon and were shipped away too.
On the last day of testing the men were offering one last chance. One man came up to him and said he had noticed that Dal had not tested and wondered if he'd like to be tested. Dal knew that they would find out in a heartbeat, but kindly denied their offer. Then a few minutes later another man came up and asked Dal and he refused and the man asked again with more force in his voice and Dal refused again. The man then nodded his head and walked away. But the next time three men came up to Dal and pracictally threatened him to join. They didn't know Dal could channel and out of fear from being killed Dal channeled and brought lightning down from the skies. The men in black coats didn't even know what happened. Dal was even more frightened now and again he ran, but he didn't kill the other black coated men. They would be a problem in the future for Dal, but now he was just occupied on escaping.
