Let's face it. Board membership is declining. Interest in the subject matter is limited, and although there are many WoT fans across the internet, not enough of them come here. At this rate, the average post count for our board will fall, members will leave in disgust, and The Wheel Weaves shall face the Apocalypse.
The obvious solution is to infiltrate other WoT forums, befriend open-minded members, and bring them over here. Doing so would expand this board's failing community, rekindle interest in the WoT books, and increase activity in the board's roleplaying sections.
But recruitment efforts are nothing new, and I'm sure most members would agree that there would be very little that could motivate yet another one. Those two things are exactly what this proposal is about: recruitment and motivation.
In short, I propose that we hold a contest. "A contest?" you ask, racking your brain for anything Tony could offer that would make recruiting members worth your while. "What sort of contest could make us become recruiters?"
Simple. A contest with rewards. Now, I'm sure everyone has interests of their own that they'd like to see discussed in detail on this board... sports, video games, writing, movies, television... anything that strikes their fancy. And I'm also sure that some members (such as Bob) have stared at the high-poster indicator at the bottom of the board with some measure of disgust, wondering how on earth they'd be able to overtake Tony.
These motivations are what we shall use to recruit more members.
I propose we hold a massive recruiting effort every three or four months in the guise of a contest. Obviously, the person who gets the most people to join this board would get something they want. Rewards that come to mind would be an extra 1000 posts to their post count, a custom title and name color, and a message board concerning one of their own hobbies.
There would be some details to work out, such as how to keep track of how many members a person has recruited. I suggest a registration board where every new member will register and tell how they found this site. They could include following Tony's links, being directed to the board by (insert member here), or hearing it mentioned on some more prosperous site, like Dragonmount.
Those are only the basics, and there are many things left to be worked out.
One thing that occurs to me: I motion that, if such contests take place, Tony be exempt from them. First of all, he's spent most of the time that the board has existed advertising, giving him quite the unfair advantage in such a contest. Secondly, he can give himselves any of these rewards with the click of a mouse. It is my belief that these contests should be for people less privileged than he, since he has already been doing this sort of work and the rewards would lack any sort of attractions for him. Sorry Tony, and I hope it doesn't offend you. (Feel free to argue the point if you wish; the only reason I believe you should participate is that I couldn't think of a way to make it fair if you did.)
