I personaly don't see a probelm with that, it's free labor, but we still have to give them food and water, and by allowing them to work, you would have to GPS tracker/tag them and the equipment. But that is a good idea, although I thought we still did that.

Some prisons do that. And I think they chain them together with one or two more people. They are also under constant guard when they work.
We should have them clean up road sides and whatnot. It keeps the enviroment clean and it let's them do something.

Capital Punishment is wrong. Killing a killer makes you no better than the killer (you are killing). There are always flaws in the legal system, so you could never tell if you were doing the right thing. If you have an executioner who is a thinker, this will probably gnaw him on the inside and possibly turn him insane. Also, what if the killer has a family? You are depriving that family of support they need and, if they're poor, killing them. It's called a Revenge Cycle. I'm not saying they should not be punished, just not with death. We could, as Tony said, use them as laborers, or exorcise them from society in say Alaska, or Mexico. Long story short, until we can be absolutely, undeniably sure the accused is guilty we should not resort to a death penalty.

actually, prisons do have to pay prisoners to work for them, but it's something really low ...like 15 cents an hour or something. not exactly free labor but close enough.
and if we put them in Alaska or Mexico, we'd be seriously messing with all of those natives. ...how would you like to see a large "herd" of men run over a snow "dune" only to kill everything they can find just for food. or to grab a shelter for a bit. it'd not be a good thing.
as for depriving the family of a relative. they are still deprived of that person while they are in prison. in effect, if a man/woman is in prison and actively appealing their case, they are losing their family MORE money than they would if they were just plain executed and done with.
the only way we'll ever be 100% sure of guilt is to develop pyschics, but should that ever come about, it would create a whole new problem. Regulating the use of them.
in short, it's all one big conumdrum. what we really need is a dictator to take over the US for a short period and have them execute everyone who's serving a life sentence. then we overthrow them and go back to "normal" and we're good for a bit. very unlikely, i know.

Well killers are "deprived" mental so it would matter if we kill them, as for the old debate "if we kill, that makes us killers" wrong, the bible (*the foundation of the USA) APROVE's of capital punishment.

The United States was founded on equal rights, Religious tolerance, and to institute a Democracy that takes in what the majority agrees on, no matter how stupid that majority may be. To defeat your Bible argument, Jesus protested against violence and promoted civil disobedience. How does the Bible approve of Capital Punishment? Commandment 6 - Thou shalt not murder. And in the old maps of Hell you see that the sin of Violence (it's what it says in the Bible too) lands you in the Seventh Circle of Hell. The Rings of Circle 7: Outer ring: The violent against people and property, in a river of boiling blood. Middle ring: The violent against themselves—suicides —turned into thorny black trees [Uniquely among the dead, they will not be bodily reincarnated after the final judgment. Where others will continue to occupy Hell (and Heaven) in corporeal (rather than merely spiritual) form, suicides—because they alienated themselves from their own bodies—spend eternity in the body of a tree, their own corpses hanging from the limbs.] Also punished in this circle are profligates, chased perpetually through the trees by ferocious dogs. Finaly: The violent against God, art, and nature—blasphemers, sodomites, and usurers—in a desert of flaming sand where fire rains from the sky. What do you have to say to that? ---------------------------- To Nameless1: Yeah, I was just joking around with that notion...lol. We currently live in a Fascist society, so you could _almost_ see the President as a dictator. Except he's out of office in a few years. Maybe if we used some sort of ultra-powerful truth serum? Then again they could always build up a resistance. Bah. Whatever. What if we sent them to colonize outerspace (once we get the technology)? It'd kinda be like Australia..or..say...America. Except if they did die, it wouldn't _exactly_ be our fault if we provided them with the means to colonize the planet. Thoughts on this theory?
