So my roommate more or less got me into Chris Cornell. I knew he had sang the theme for Casino Royale, but I wasn't familiar with his other stuff. My roommate luckily had some of his albums and I gave them a whirl and liked it. Then I heard that he was coming out with a new album. I went to the store and picked it up and liked it a whole lot more than his other stuff. Scream was co-produced with Timbaland who also did OneRepublic's album Dreaming Out Loud. You can tell there are similiarities there, but it isn't the same. Cornell put his own twist on things and it turned out really well. Rarely do I have most of an album with four or more stars on every song. Cornell's album is at least four starred on every song with three or four five starred songs. Its a great listen and I highly recommend it.

"Oei" <-- the noise I made when I heard he was teaming up with Timbaland. I'm not saying I don't like Timbaland; he is very good at what he does. However, there are some people he should just leave alone. I'm also not entirely sure I support his desire to conquer the whole music industry. The album was cringe-worthy. Listening to it was like being systematically poked with humiliation. I think Chris Cornell should be taken out back and beaten. Just what has he done?

He stepped out of his element and it didn’t work. It’s clustered and fragmented. I mean, tell me what isn’t wrong with this statement:
“…shift from Cornell's previous musical efforts with the exclusion of some guitar and rock elements that were replaced with producer Timbaland's electronic pop soundscapes.” (Wiki…I’m lazy)
This makes the album cover somewhat telling: his going beat his name down into the ground with the very guitar that made him. And his "previous musical efforts" did wonderful things to me. I’m quite partial to electronic pop, but not Timbaland’s “soundscapes” definition of diluting a rock legend into a mockery. I can’t believe they consider this album “highlights” of their respective careers.
In short, the guy is losing his awesomeness!!

It was meant to flow from one song to another without stopping. If you notice in the first song and the last song you could hear a reel starting and stopping.
You haven't heard any of his live shows, I'm guessing. He does the songs with guitars and drums and all that and it still sounds great. Just because he ventured off to try new things doesn't mean he won't return to what he use to do.
And Cornell said himself that people don't like it, that's too bad for them. He likes it and that is what matters to him.

…..you mean like….an album? Of course it’s supposed to flow! The fact that it didn’t was my point. And you’re right – I haven’t heard any of his live shows. But until he gets his act together there is no way on earth that I’d be paying to listen to this new shit his spewing. I swear on Oreos. And I’m well aware that his still using guitars and drums. I just wish he stuck with these guitars and drums. He didn’t need Timbaland for anything.
You’re absolutely right. I wonder if he realises how much it’s flopped critics and sales wise. It’s good that he likes it - he’s in the minority.

Like the whole album flowed from one song to another, there was no pausing between songs.

….I’m so glad you felt the need to point that out to me. However, it doesn’t refute all my prior and subsequent points, m’dear.

You do realize its just your opinion you are writing about. Not everyone feels the way you do. All I did was come here to write that I liked it. I'm not making anyone listen to it.

But I don't really care about reviews. Those are just people paid to write about their opinions. Hell, I don't really listen to my friend's opinions when it comes to things and they know that because I usually do my own thing regardless. So good for a whole bunch of people who don't like it. I'll keep on listening to it.
