For a few years now I’ve been a bit obsessed with film soundtracks. I started off with the good old Hans Zimmer stuff but after a while they kind of become all a bit too familiar. Clint Mansell, for me, is currently the big film score guy around right now, along with a few from Philip Glass. I’m a bit stuck between which I consider my favourite soundtracks, though. I consider the Gladiator soundtrack brilliant, especially Lisa Gerrard’s contributions, but I also appreciate Danny Elfman’s stuff. The Mulholland Drive soundtrack was perfect for the movie. Clint Mansell’s The Fountain, however, surpasses the very film. That left me feeling rather cheated (I heard the soundtrack before the film).
What would you guys consider the best film soundtrack ever? Which do you think actually surpasses the film?

Clint Mansell . . . are you listening to Requiem For A Dream? My roommate and I were listening to that.
The only song I know by Phillip Glass is Koyaanisqatsi which was used in Scrubs.
My favorite soundtracks to listen to are the BSG soundtracks. They act as good background music when you need some as well as just plain ol' good music to listen to in general. Bear McCreary's rendition of All Along The Watchtower is my favorite version of the song, even the original

The normal Requiem For A Dream version or the revamped LOTR trailer version? I heard somewhere that that was done without his permission, but I still like it. Furthermore, Requiem For A Dream is one of my favourite films with a great soundtrack to match. It riles me that the film is usually overlooked. Hell, it’s what a small budget does for you.
And Koyannisqatsi is probably my favourite song from Philip Glass. He also did the soundtrack to The Hours, I think. And I agree with you over Mccreary’s version. I don’t like Bob Dylan at the best of times to be honest (I don’t know why I always feel ashamed when I say that).

I think it's only Summer, Fall and Winter. Spring might have ruined the symbolism after all that crap that happened in the Fall. Still my favourite song falls under Winter: Lux Aeterna.

That is the best one in the entire album.

I really like the soundtrack from the movie "Braveheart". Also, I must agree, that Req~ is one of the best movies I've ever seen.
