since I couldn't reply on the other board(there just wasnt a ""reply"" button)I recommend my books over here.
The Deverry cycle is very good. It is written by Khaterinne Kerr(it consists off 12 books, and like RJ she has to finish 2 more before the serie ends). She writes in a refreshing way with different timelines(the people are born over and over again and meet everytime, a bit like Birgitte)I also love the way she describes the characters emotions. The magic system is also really great in this book. The there is the Magician serie, I forgotwho wrtoe it, but One character Thomas looks a lot like Rand, he also lives with a crazy madman who could channel inside his head, and they also exchange memories.

Hey, could you give a few individual names to The Deverry cycle books. I'm trying to find them, but I can only find one. I found other cool books by Katharine Kerr, but only one Deverry book. I hope they are not lost between the coutries, if you know what I mean. Publishers have a bad habit of not publishing things over here.

Are they like the average fantasy book? Like, do they have elves, dwarves, or magic in any of the books?

Well, they have elves and a kind of dwarves(don't want to spoil it), but its not childish, in many ways it is the same as WoT.
