The bio form must be completed and posted in the Role Playing section as its own thread; do not post your bio in someone else’s thread. Also, as a courtesy, the subject of your thread should include your character’s name and little else. For example: “[Character Name] – Needs Approved”. Once approved, a staff member will change the title to “[Character Name] – Bio” and give an approval message. This makes it easier to quickly reference someone else’s bio.
Approval
A staff member must approve your bio before you can begin role playing. Once a bio is approved, it will be moved to the Approved Bios sub-board for easy reference.
God-Like Character
- To receive approval, characters must be realistic. If you are alive, you know what the average person can do. Use this as a guide to building your character. For example: a character should not be able defeat fifty men in melee combat. This is a physical impossibility. A character can, however, possibly defeat five, depending on the skills of each.
- As for channeling, it is technically possible for one character to kill fifty people. With channeling, we will also trust you to use common judgment. Do not make yourself as powerful as Rand or the Forsaken. Simply be reasonable.
Post Style
The desired post style is slightly difficult to describe. This is a play-by-post system, in which you post the thoughts, feelings, and actions of your character, then wait for the others you are role playing with to do the same. This is not, however, a real-time game, meaning days could go by before the next person posted. Because of this, more detail is desired in each consecutive post. If you wish, think of it as a circle story of sorts. For the best way to get an idea of exactly what and how role playing here is, I suggest you simply read over some of the other threads in the Role Playing section.
Timeline Issues
The timeline is tracked in a separate thread; simply check it to see where we are in relation to the books. If you haven’t read the book series, the timeline may be confusing, as well as provide spoilers. Despite this, if you still wish to role play, yet have no knowledge of the WoT universe, simply PM myself or any other member of the staff and we will be more than happy to help.
Also within the timeline thread, you will find a list of restrictions, mainly concerning the One Power, which pertain to the books. This should be followed at all times to maintain a close relationship to the books. As we are running a Portal Stone World, exceptions are allowed. Again, we want to trust you to your best judgment when making such decisions. If you are not sure whether what you want your character to do is possible, again PM myself of any other staff member just to be sure.
Post Restrictions and Limitations
Within your RP post, you may only describe the actions of your character. You can not dictate the actions of other people’s characters within your post, without permission. Such things often occur when two people role playing have different ideas on the direction of their current situation. To alleviate this problem, I recommend talking to one another, either through PM or instant messenger, and deliberate over the course you wish your characters to go, and not post anything until that course is set.
Also, Out of Character, or OOC, talking is permitted; though please try to keep it to a minimum. If you must, please denote out of character talking in such a way that others will know, without a doubt, that it is, in fact, out of character; such as [OOC: -message here-]. Also, please keep o.o.c. talk to either the top or bottom of a post; putting it in the middle of your post will only cause confusion.
In the future, other rules may be applied as situations arise. If you have any questions, please message myself or any other staff member. That’s what we’re here for.
