I've always wondered why the DO dosn't give up if he's beaten all, or at least most, of the time. I have a theory for why he dosn't give up.
The DO isn't the same DO from the previous Age. How can that be? you may ask. Easy. The DO makes someone Nai'blis, right? What if making being Nai'blis is being the DO? Sorta like a job you pass on from one person to another. One person is the DO for this amount of time and realizes that its not all that cracked up to be so they need someone to take their spot. So they come up with this Nai'blis thing which tricks the Shadow channelers to compete to be the Nai'blis and therefore becoming the DO.

Then what type of drug is it?
Why would the Dark One give up? It is a book series, so there must be a self-perpetuating evil to keep things going.
